History of the double hung window

The first double hung windows were made of wood and had huge lead weights in the sides to raise the windows. These windows had single pane glass that would freeze in the winter and be really hot in the summer. Most people would install an outer window called a storm window to make these a little more energy efficient but that didn’t do much. Sometimes people would install plastic inside and tape it on the window frame but still the bitter cold air came into the house. Oh, and cleaning the outside of these windows was nearly impossible without a ladder and risking injury climbing up on the outside.

The next double hung that came along was vinyl and had 2 panes of glass, but it was brittle and often discolored and the seal between the panes of glass was short lived before it broke and moisture got inside and there was no way to get the moisture out. These windows did tilt in for cleaning but the springs that lifted the windows often broke and tilting them in became almost impossible.

There have been several variations of the above designs for years, some better than others but as window manufacturers came and went getting replacement parts for these windows is nearly impossible and warranties became obsolete.

Our windows start with 100% virgin vinyl fully welded frames and sashes which means they are white all the way though not just a coating that would fade or get chalky. Also something most other companies don’t discuss is the number of chambers in the frame or the thickness of the sash our multi-chamber frames insulate better than any other vinyl window on the market. Our sashes are also multi-chamber and are designed around the 1 ¼ triple pane glass package.

We offer the best glass package in the industry on our windows. Our 1 ¼ Triple pane glass with 2 layers of low-e coating on 2 panes of the glass to reflect heat out in the summer and keep heat in during the winter. Then that is followed up by 2 chambers of argon glass with argon being denser than air it keeps the cold air out in the winter and warm air out in the summer. All of this is held together with the duralite warm edge spacer which prevents that moisture you see around the edges of your windows in the winter.

Next is our tilt in for cleaning feature. Other companies offer windows that do tilt in for cleaning but they have cheap plastic latches that are hard to release and are often break. Our Robosync lathes and locks are a single unit for a seamless look on the top of your window sash which makes for easy window operation and to make sure you have an airtight seal every time. These are available in 5 colors to fit you design applications.

Our window finish options are some of the broadest in the industry. We make windows in 100% virgin vinyl in White and Clay but we offer 14 in stock and endless custom paint colors inside and out to fit your design ideas. We also feature 3 colors of woodgrain for interior options to match existing wood windows.

Finally our warranty. Duck windows offers a limited lifetime warranty that is transferable if you decide to sell your home. Our manufacturer backs this warranty with a 50 year limited lifetime warranty of their own so that means you have a double warranty for piece of mind after your windows are installed.
